Listen up, when I say that these necklaces, could NOT be easier to make! Its the perfect Halloween kids craft for you and your little one. All they need is some basic motor skills to string the beads – Plus, MAYBE, just maybe you’ll get some quiet time in the house from their concentration! A win-win!
How to make your Halloween Necklace:
1.) Start by cutting your nylon cord approximately 28-36 inches long depending on how long you would like the necklace to be on your child.
2.) You’ll start by stringing your center beads on first. I like to have the kids lay them on the table and string from both ends, so they can see their design or pattern coming together.
3.) Let them string each bead one by one, in whatever design they choose!
4.) Once all the beads are on, you’ll want to string the safety clasps on.
5.) Triple knot the end of the cord with basic knots to ensure that it doesn’t slip through the hole of the clasp.
6.) If you want to keep your necklace as a teething necklace, you’re all done!
Adding a Shrinky Dink Halloween Pendant:
If you have older children, who won’t put the necklace in their mouth, you can continue with this step! Have them make their own custom Shrinky Dink artwork to add as a pendant on their necklace!
1.) Use your clear shrinky dink sheets as the paper to let your child create their own halloween design! Or you can find a design and have them trace it (that’s what we did with the Vampirina pendant).
2.) IMPORTANT! You have to use sharpies on the shrinky dink sheets or an alcohol-based ink to ensure your artwork doesn’t wipe off or get damaged when baking them.
3.) Be sure you draw your design bigger than you think, it will SHRINK A LOT once you bake it!
4.) Preheat your oven to 325 degrees.
5.) Once you design is complete, cut it out and punch a hole in the top to use as a pendant.
6.) Lay it flat on a baking sheet lined with aluminum foil.
7.) Bake for 1-3 minutes! You’ll want to watch it during this process. They will curl up and then flatten back out as they shrink.
8.) As soon as they flatten back out, take them out of the oven and let cool. It so awesome how thick the Shrinky Dink material gets too!
9.) ENJOY your own wearable artwork! You can affix your pendant using a keychain ring or a jumpring.
